This fascinating St. Patrick biography for kids will tell your children the true story of Patrick of Ireland and the work he did for the Lord.
I’d like to thank Christian Focus Publications for giving me a copy of Patrick of Ireland: The Boy Who Forgave by K.C. Murdarasi in return for my honest review.
The story of Saint Patrick of Ireland is incredible.
St. Patrick Day History for Kids
Patrick was a wealthy British teen who had forsaken the Christian God of his parents (his father was an elder in the church). Left in charge of their estate while his parents were away, sixteen-year-old Patrick found himself witnessing a raid on the property by bandits from the sea. In an effort to save his servants, he was himself taken captive. Patrick struggles to come to terms with his new position as an enslaved shepherd on the hills of pagan Ireland. It’s there that he comes to terms with the Christian God he had previously snubbed, and begins praying earnestly.
Saint Patrick Biography for Kids
One of the things I earnestly love about Christian Focus’ Trailblazers series–which now has 61 biographies–for 8-14 year-olds, is that the stories read like novels. Kids really feel like they’re part of the story. I also love the fact that reading biographies of earnest Christians to kids helps build their faith and their character. Honestly, I’ll probably read these books on lazy Sunday afternoons when my kids are grown (If they don’t insist on taking them with them, which I expect they will. I may have to buy more copies!).
K. C. Murdarasi, who holds a masters in Ancient History and is a retired missionary, does a great job in Patrick of Ireland of bringing the story of Patrick to life for kids, faithfully telling a historically accurate version without involving the mythology surrounding his life. To be honest, the life he reported having was pretty spectacular. There were dreams and visions, a Holy Spirit-led escape, a journey home full of God’s provision, and then a return to Ireland as a bishop and missionary. Patrick spent 30 years in Ireland, preaching to those who once imprisoned him. He fought the good fight for the gospel of Jesus Christ, even standing up to a local warlord. Your kids will read all the details in Murdarasi’s fabulous book.
I highly recommend Patrick of Ireland for your elementary and middle school aged kids. There’s even an audiobook!

Christian Biographies for Kids | Christian History for Kids | Theology for Kids
Christian History Matters for Our Kids.
History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible.
Here’s why:
- God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It’s important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
- Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
- Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
- Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God’s Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
- Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others–and on history.
