History Lapbooking for Your Homeschool
When I first started homeschooling, a friend mentioned lapbooking as a tool to help kids learn through written narration.
I remember asking her what a lapbook is. I’d never heard of lapbooking!
The truth is, lapbooking in a lot of fun. Kids end up with a permanent written record of what they’ve learned. Moms get to see all that literature-based learning be processed as children work on the writing process.
Lapbooking about history is a great way for children to deepen their understanding about the causes and outcomes of historical events. It’s also a great way for them to think through the impact of worldview on history. As a Christian mom, I want my kids to see every historical event through a lens of a biblical worldview.
What is Lapbooking?
A lapbook is a file folder with a series of minibooks that allow kids to record their learning.
At Thinking Kids Press, I take that a bit further with word searches, copywork, geography, verse frames, and short Bible studies. Each minibook and activity in our history lapbooks is aimed at helping your kids study history from a biblical worldview, and they are based on my Who What Why series of books from Christian Focus Publications. The lapbooks come with instructions, reading and discussion directions, and detailed assembly diagrams and specifications.
Plus, they’re really cute! I’ve worked to create history lapbooks your family will enjoy as a finished product and that you’ll desire to keep around for years to come as a memory of your hands-on history studies.
In this post, I’ve also included a list of fabulous history lapbooks from other homeschool publishers and bloggers.
So, what is lapbooking? Well, lapbooking is a process of learning that just happens to create a super fun end product!

Christian Biographies for Kids | Christian History for Kids | Theology for Kids
Christian History Matters for Our Kids.
History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible.
Here’s why:
- God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It’s important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
- Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
- Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
- Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God’s Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
- Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others–and on history.
