It shouldn’t be that way with the Bible.
God’s Word is a special revelation from the Lord that’s meant to be absorbed and discussed in community. In fact, in the Old Testament, God established times when all the families of Israel would stand together to hear the reading of the Word. Studying the Bible as a family is a valuable use of our time.
But, preschoolers and high schoolers hear the Bible a little differently, right? They certainly have different cognitive abilities and maturity levels.
There’s good news! There’s a tool that can help you take your entire family through the Bible, together, but at age-appropriate levels!
The Best Homeschool Bible Curriculum for the Entire Family
You’re a busy homeschool mom or grandma. There’s math to be done, a science video to watch, the littles are on second breakfast, and there may be a frog in the bathroom vent. I’ve been there, too.
In Deuteronomy 6:6-9, ESV, God tells us through Moses:
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
That can feel like a tall order when you’re ricocheting between potty training and driver’s ed. My book, Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible from Bethany House, gives on-the-ground advice about carrying out God’s command to disciple our kids in our day-to-day lives.
One of the GREAT things about homeschooling is that we can choose our subjects and schedule the work to educate our kids. There is nothing more important that we can teach our kids than the Bible. And, there’s extra help, busy mom. You see, you’ve just found the perfect homeschool Bible curriculum to take your whole family through God’s Word!
Study the Bible as a family at 5 age-appropriate levels
This road trip comes with Bible reading, discussion, background exploration, crafts, notebooking, praying for the nations, memorization, and more.
There can even be snacks, if you want. Who doesn’t love snacks on a road trip?
You really can read through the Bible together as a family.
Your kids will be studying at five separate levels, so their studies will be age-appropriate. Many families tell us this is their favorite aspect of the curriculum. Their whole family can learn the Bible together while understanding it at a level that’s appropriate.
Not only are the reading, memorization, and notebooking scheduled developmentally for kids, according to the classical educational model, there are also fabulous age-appropriate resources scheduled right into the curriculum. Your kids will have the opportunity to view videos, read books, and do projects that make sense for their level of understanding–all while your family studies the same section of Scripture and discusses it together.
- Preschool to Kindergarten | For your 3-5 year olds! This level uses a Bible storybook. Your little ones will craft through the Bible, watch fun videos, and memorize verses.
- Lower Grammar | Your kids in grades 1-3 will join your family in reading the Bible, memorizing Bible verses, basic notebooking, crafting, praying for the nations, and learning about each book of the Bible.
- Upper Grammar | Students in grades 4-6 add some geography, biblical literature, and interesting books about God’s Word to their studies.
- Dialectic | Middle school students in grades 7-9 will keep a timeline, go deeper in their studies about Scripture, memorize extra verses each week, and do research on the biblical background.
- Rhetoric | Students in grades 10-12 will read the entire Bible in three years (no skipping any of the stickier chapters!), memorize the first 12 chapters of Romans and longer passages related to their reading, and dive deep into learning about God’s Word.
