“I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” –Genesis 9:11-13, ESV
The rainbow of Noah in the Bible was a sign of the promise (the Noahic Covenant) that God made to Noah following the global flood that killed all creatures outside of the family of Noah and the animals on the ark. It must have been such a relief to Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives to hear God’s promise that he would never again flood the earth.

God’s promise was to all generations. Why does the rainbow mean so much to us today?
The flood and rainbow symbolize to us both the wrath of God poured out for our sin against him, as well as the grace and mercy of God shown in his plan for our salvation through Jesus Christ.
Knowing the Lord has offered eternal forgiveness to all who believe on Jesus, repent of their sins, and confess Jesus with their mouth makes the present trials and tribulations bearable.
Consider the words of Paul in Romans 8:18, ESV:
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
How wonderful is that? (SO wonderful!)
That hope in Christ is something we want our kids to think about every time they see the rainbow as well. This fun craft with a verse card will help your kids remember the truth of the gospel and God’s promise to Noah and to all generations every time they see a rainbow.

Creating Your Rainbow of Noah Bible Craft
Before you get started on the craft, review the story of Noah’s ark and the flood from Genesis 6-8.
Next, read Genesis 9:8-17 with your kids. Talk about what the covenant God established with all creatures on earth.
1) Write the Rainbow of Noah Bible verse.
Print the rainbow of Noah Bible verse cards on cardstock. Have your child write Genesis 9:11-13 on the card in the version of your choice.
Cut out the Bible verse card and tape it to the wall beside the Rainbow of Noah Bible craft.
2) Cut and wrap your rainbow pieces with yarn.
Decide how many colors you want in your rainbow and cut the correct number of ropes.
Next, place the ropes on a flat surface and bend them in the shape of an arch to form a rainbow. Cut the ends to make each side of the rainbow even. This will make the inner rope shorter, with the length of each rope longer as you go outward.
Choose the yarn colors you would like for your rainbow. Tie the first colored piece of yarn to the inner rope, one inch from the end.
Wrap the yarn around the rope, making sure your child pulls the yarn firmly and wraps evenly.
Wrap the yarn until only one inch of rope remains showing on the opposite side.
Leave 2-3 inches of yarn and cut your piece off the skein. Use a tapestry needle to pull the yarn tail through the wrapped yarn 4-5 times. Cut off the remaining yarn.
Wrap the rest of the ropes in the colors of your choice. Leave one inch of yarn showing on each side.

3) Glue your rainbow ropes to a felt backing.
Use hot glue to attach the shortest yarn wrapped rope onto the felt. As you curve each piece, be sure you can fit all your pieces onto the felt. Leave the bottom inch of rope on each side extended below the felt.
Glue the remaining ropes to the felt.
Use sharp scissors to trim the felt backing along the outside and inside of your rainbow so the felt cannot be seen from the front.
4) Fray your rainbow rope ends and add pom poms.
Open the twisted open ends of the ropes and fray them slightly. They should look like wavy hair.
5) Add felt flowers to your rainbow if you’d like.
Glue the felt flowers on either open side of the rainbow.
Glue a small loop of ribbon to the back of your rainbow and hang it to the wall. Tape the Bible verse card to the wall near the rainbow.
