A great reminder about the main Bible themes for your kids–> FREE Bible Reading Cheat Sheet –with great questions for each passage, too!
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.Psalm 119:105, ESV
Bible Reading that Makes Sense
When we read the Bible with our kids, we really want to help them stay on the path that God’s Word lays in front of them. Without a clear vision of what Scripture is teaching us, it can be easy to take a wrong turn or two and get off in the weeds. We can lose track of the path altogether.
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.Psalm 119:9, ESV
Major Bible Themes (for Kids, too!)
When we read the Bible, one of the things we notice is that the Bible has several main themes.
These overarching major themes of the Bible aren’t accidental. They are an important part of God’s message to us through his Holy Spirit -inspired Word. Across 66 books, using some 40 (or so) human authors, the God of the Universe has written a story for us, and his story has a main point. The library of books we call the Bible has several main themes as well.
We want our kids to know and understand those main themes as well so they can identify God’s message to them as they read his Word.
As a part of the Faithful Reading section of Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible, I talk about the major themes of Scripture. I also discuss how to ask questions straight from the text you just read that relate to those main themes.

Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible
You want your kids to learn and love the Bible.
You want to teach the Bible…
As parents, we deeply desire the best for our kids. We look for the right schools, we make them eat right and exercise, and we get them involved in extracurricular activities. We take our job as parents seriously.
But are we also putting our time and energy into
teaching them the Bible? Giving them the life-changing, soul-nourishing words of Scripture is not only doable, it’s an essential part of parenting kids for Jesus. And the good news is, studying God’s Word as a family doesn’t have to be difficult!
2 Timothy 2:15, ESV, says:
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,
a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Our job, as parents who love Jesus, is to help our kids become approved workers, unashamed and rightly handling the word of truth.
The good news? Teaching the Bible isn’t hard. Your family can learn the Bible together.
…and you can!
